Valley’s contract with its long-time power supplier in South Louisiana expired and the co-op had to shop around for the best rates. Cleco was the lowest bidder but its price was much higher than what Valley Electric customers have been paying.

Town of Hornbeck Receives Stimulus Grant

May 28, 2009

The Town of Hornbeck will benefit from the federal stimulus package with a grant in the amount of $525,000. The grant, which was just awarded and distributed from the governor’s office, will be used to rehabilitate the town’s sewer system, including the lift stations and treatment plant.
“We are thrilled to receive the money,” said Town of Hornbeck Mayor Clarence Beebe. “There were only 50 municipalities out of 250 that received the stimulus money. I am glad that they decided to help out with several small projects, instead of just one big project.”
The Town of Hornbeck submitted a grant application for the sewer renovations in December, but never imagined it would be funded through stimulus funds. Beebe said that many of the grants awarded were for existing projects, and since the Town of Hornbeck already had an existing application, they were funded. Beebe doesn’t know when the funds will be received, but plans for the renovation to the sewer system are ongoing.
