Sobriety Checkpoint Scheduled For Saturday Night
July 30, 2010
Louisiana State Police has zero tolerance for impaired drivers. To combat impaired driving in our area, Louisiana State Police Troop E will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint this Saturday, July 31, 2010 from approximately 9:00 pm to 3:00 am, weather and traffic conditions permitting, in Vernon Parish.
The mission will be to intercept and incarcerate impaired drivers before they can cause injury or death to themselves, their passengers, or members of the public. Drivers are less likely to drive impaired when they recognize the increased probability of law enforcement action.
We are asking the public to make the mature decision and to designate a sober driver. Remember, “You drink, You drive, You lose”!
To report aggressive/impaired driving call *LSP (*577) from your cellular phone or your local law enforcement agency.
**UPDATE** LSP Towing And Recovery Arrests
July 30, 2010
On July 27, Troopers arrested Richard Glen Cotton (W/M 37 yrs) of Stonewall, LA for Violating Registration Provisions. Cotton’s arrest was based off his involvement in the matter listed below. He was booked into the LaSalle Parish Jail. See below for the original news release.
Yesterday, Louisiana State Police Region II/Towing and Recovery Division arrested Brent Allen Flowers (W/M 28 yrs) of Hope, AR for Filing or Maintaining False Public Record, Alteration and Forgery, and Violation of Registration Provision. Roy D. Linder (W/M 45 yrs) of Gibsland, LA was arrested today for Violating Registration Provisions.
These arrests stem from a roadside safety inspection conducted on a truck and trailer by a Towing and Recovery Trooper on March 17, 2010, in the Troop G area (Shreveport). During the inspection, it was determined the trailer’s factory VIN was removed intentionally. After further investigation, it was determined that the trailer was manufactured and purchased in Texas, sold in Louisiana, where the alterations to the trailer occurred, then titled in Arkansas and resold in Louisiana. These events occurred over several months and involved multiple individuals.
Both subjects were arrested and booked at the LaSalle Parish Jail.
Additional arrests are expected.

Stewart was sentenced to 25 hours of community service, five years probation, and assessed a $500 fine on top of restitution in the amount of $7,316.03 to the La. Dept. of Public Safety for expenses the state incurred to recall and retest a number of drivers who obtained commercial driver’s licenses through Stewart.
Stewart, a third party examiner for Stewart Auto Sales and Savage in Zwolle, was authorized by the Dept. of Public Safety, Office of Motor Vehicles, to administer CDL tests for license candidates.
An investigation began following a LADPS-OMV compliance review where it was discovered that Stewart tested a large number of CDL candidates with no failure ratings, which was a fraud indicator.
He admitted to falsifying the skills test for 250 CDL candidates, for which he was paid $200 per test. The Office of Motor Vehicles recalled and retested all 320 CDL drivers.
