Northwestern State to hold Career Fair Feb. 7

NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State University’s Office of Counseling and Career Services is sponsoring a Career Fair Tuesday, Feb. 7, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Friedman Student Union Ballroom. The event is open to Northwestern State students and alumni.
Local, national and multinational companies, governmental agencies and universities will be on hand to acceptresumes, conduct job interviews and provide information.
Those participating in the Career Fair are AFLAC, Amerisafe, Inc., Beta Engineering, Bowman Systems, LLC, Elite Health Solution, Enterprise Rent a Car, International Paper, Jean Simpson Personnel Services, LouisianaWorkforce Commission, Louisiana Cat, Mary Kay, Natural Resources Conservation Services, Northwestern State, Southern University Law School and State FarmInsurance.

Non-credit schedule for February set

NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State University’s Office of Electronic and Continuing Education is offering classes on cake decorating, floral design and belly dancing in February.
Basic Cake Decorating will be taught beginning Thursday, Feb. 2. The class will be on Thursdays from 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. in the Family and Consumer Sciences Building. The course runs until April 5. The fee is $99.
Basic Floral Design will be presented on Feb. 4, 11 and 18 from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. at the Master’s Bouquet at 108 South Drive in Natchitoches. The fee is $200 plus a $100 supply fee.
A Louisiana Retail Florist Exam Prep Course will begin Feb. 18. The classroom portion is on Feb. 18 and 25 from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and the worktable instruction is on Feb. 20-24 and Feb. 27 – March 2 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. The classroom portion will be in Room 132-B of Dodd hall the worktable section will be taught at the Master’s Bouquet at 108 South Drive in Natchitoches. The fee is $1,638 for textbook and materials plus an $889 material fee paid to the instructor prior to the start of class.
Belly Dance Level I will begin Tuesday, Feb. 28 and will run on Tuesdays through April 3 from 6:30 p.m. until 7:45 p.m. The course will be held at the NSU Wellness, Recreation and Activity Center. The fee is $65.

Donald Johnson, white male, 43, arrested on charges of simple burgulary, cruelty to animals, theft aggravated assault by VPSD. He remains in jail.
Charles Williams, black male, 49, arrested on charges of poss of crack cocaine by Task Force. He remains in jail.

Harvey Dock White, black male, 23, arrested on charges of Sabine Parish Warrant by Many PD. He remains in jail.
The Sabine Parish Detention Center is currently housing 113 inmates.

Patricia, the daughter of Carl M. and Mildred Jeanette Goodwin Baggs was born on November 21, 1948 in Texas City, TX. She passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at her residence in Leesville, LA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Gandy and son, Michael Deen Goodson.
She is survived by her son, Danny Carnell & daughter-n-law, Meline Camp; daughter, Melenie Lee McCrary & husband, Dale all of Leesville; sister, Wanda Sue & husband, Gordya Shulick of South Carolina; four grandchildren, Evelyn, Michael, Robert, Dallas and a host of other close relatives and friends.
Bodies Revealed Exhibit Opens Saturday at Sci-Port in Shreveport

An exhibit that features preserved human bodies posed in everyday activities opens Saturday at Sci-Port: Louisiana’s Science Center in Shreveport.
Bodies Revealed includes 12 full bodies and more than 185 partial bodies and organs. Besides the displays, the exhibit includes a touch table where visitors can handle preserved organs.
Displays contain information about each body system and compare healthy versus diseased organs. The exhibit also will provide information on how obesity affects a person’s body.
The bodies and specimens in the Bodies Revealed exhibit were preserved with liquid silicon polymer that’s allowed to harden. The process can take up to a year for full-body specimens. Florida-based Premier Exhibitions started Bodies exhibits in 2005 and Bodies Revealed exhibits in 2007 in the United States.

Donald Wayne Morgan, 66, of Shreveport died on Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at Christus Schumpert Hospital in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was born on July 5, 1945 in Shreveport, Louisiana and graduated from Woodlawn High in 1963.
He retired as Assistant Chief after 33 years with the Shreveport Police Department. Following his retirement, he worked as a detective with the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Department for 7 years. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army in Vietnam, 1965-1966. He volunteered as Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 18 of which his son was a member. He was a faithful Christian and active member of Grace Community UMC for 11 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Elizabeth Meador Morgan, and his brothers, John and Robert Morgan. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Patti Morgan; his 3 sisters, Patricia Miller of Zwolle, LA; Doris Jane Bennett of Blanchard, LA and Rebecca Wright of Flower Mound, TX; 1 brother, Skip Morgan of Stuart Beach, FL; three children, Krissie Rizzuto and Kara Morgan of New Orleans, LA and Matthew Morgan of Shreveport, LA; five grandchildren, Joshua Benitez, Cicely Rizzuto, Ciarra Rizzuto, Max Rizzuto and Beau Bornmann of New Orleans; countless nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, scouts and friends.
A Funeral Service will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at Grace Community UMC in Shreveport with Rev. Sione Tu’uta officiating. Internment will be at 2:00 PM at Shady Grove Cemetery in Noble, LA.
The family will receive friends beginning at 8:30 AM until time of service at the church.
The family requests that memorials be made to Grace Community United Methodist Church, 9400 Ellerbe Road, Shreveport, LA 71106.

Brandon Muse, white male, 29, was arrested on charges of probation violation by LA Department of Corrections. He remains in jail.
Dandre Mills, black male, 23, was arrested on charges of attempted 2nd degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon by Leesville Police Dept. He remains in jail.
Clarence B. Graham JR., male, 25, was arrested on charges of pornography involving juveniles by LA State Police. He remains in jail.
