Mr. Corley passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2012 after a short illness. He was born May 2, 1928, in Many, the son of the late Theresa and Marion Corley. After graduating from Many High School, he earned an accounting degree from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA.

John, along with his mother, Theresa Corley opened Corley Abstract which continues to be operated by his daughter and grandson, Curtis “Andy” Knippers. He was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous and would have celebrated his thirty-six “birthday” June 16, 2012.

Surviving are his wife, Dean Ross Corley; daughter Martha C. Knippers; step-sons Jim Hembree and wife Sheryl; Jack Hembree and wife Tonya; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Corley Vines and his brother, Gerald “Jerry” Corley.

Pallbearers will be: David Miller, Donald Remedies, Charlie Bush, Garrett Walsh, Ed Baldridge, George Shultz, Kevin Troquille and Joe Niswanger.

Speaking at his funeral will be: Gene Johnson, Garrett Walsh, Ed Baldridge, Charlie Bush and Donald Remedies.

A 4.3 magnitude earthquake struck three miles east of the city of Timpson at 3:12 a.m. Thursday.

Viewers from as far away as Mt. Enterprise, TX all the way to Bienville Parish, Louisiana made calls to the KSLA News 12 newsroom after feeling the earth shake.

The Stormtracker 12 Weather Team tracked the quake to a depth of 5 kilometers. 

So far no major damage was reported, but an elderly Timpson woman was hurt when she fell out of bed and cut her arm. There have been some reports of minor damage, including broken dishes and windows. Jo Anna Godfrey, who lives near Lake Timpson, sent in pictures of her home entertainment center before and after the quake, showing shattered statuettes, crystal and other items scattered on the floor.

The most significant damage so far being reported at the Ollie Barrett residence, where numerous bricks from their chimney came crashing down into their living room, along with their 52 inch television that was mounted over the fireplace. This is the second time in a week an earthquake has hit near Timpson. Last Thursday a 3.7 quake rattled the area.

“I was awakened because I was rolling around in bed and there was a loud, loud rumbling noise,” Barrett said. “And there was a lot of crashing.”

Barrett also felt the earthquake last week.

“I was home then,” she said. “This one was much, much worse. That one was very frightening. But not a lot of damage and this one was much worse.”

Marie Skidmore was born on Thursday, June 20, 1929 in Many, LA. She passed away on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at her residence in Many,LA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, O.G. and Samantha Jewel Lewing; husband Ross Skidmore, Jr.; two sisters, Vera Eason and Cleola Cavanaugh.

She is survived by one son, Randy Skidmore and wife Terri of Many, LA; one daughter, Teena Marie Battalora of Many, LA; one sister, Linda Lewing Edzards and husband Jack of Paris, TX; one brother-in-law, V.C. Eason of Many, LA; ten grandchildren; seven great grandchildren along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Pallbearers will be Ross Skidmore, Casey Lites, Tyler Starks, Justin Skidmore, Weston Eason and Bronson Richardson.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Mark Heard,Jeff Lewing, Zack Peace, Jerry Cavanaugh and Mark Cavanaugh.

Gregory Lynn Williams, black male, 46, was arrested on charges of theft of timber by LA Dept. of AG and Forestry. He bonded.

Harold Shane Baker, white male, 34, was arrested on charges of theft of motor vehicle, theft of fireamr,theft under $500, and posession of firearm by convicted felon by SPSO. He remains in jail.

Mary Jane Alexandra Baker, white female, 21, was arrested on charges of theft of motor vehicle, theft of firearm,and theft under $500 by SPSO. She remains in jail.

Tina Campbell Leone, white female, 39 was arrested on charges of Sabine Parish bench warrant by SPSO. She bonded.

Sue Ann Durr. white female, 39, was arrested on charges of possession of Sched II and possession of drug parapernalia. She remains in jail.

Mathew R.Blevins, white male, 56, was arrested on charges of bench warrant for faliure to appear and bail jumping by VPSD. He remains in jail.

Richard Bailey, white male, 28, was arrested on charges of 7 counts of theftof utility property and criminal conspiracy by VPSD. He remains in jail.

Whitney Lemoine, white female, 23, was arrested on charges of princible to theft of utilities and criminal conspiracy by VPSD. She bonded.
