Cecil R. Walker

Cecil Raiford Walker was born on April 23,1923 in DeRidder, LA to James H. and Stella Cryer Walker. He departed this life in his home, with his family at his side, on September 13,2014 at 2:55 pm to be with his Lord and Savior for evermore.

Cecil was preced in death by his wife Maxine Langton Walker in 2000 and Zola Young Walker in 2012. He is survived by two daughters, Mary Smith of Anacoco; sisters, Joan Horton, Marcelle Perry and Marquariette Chelf all of Anacoco. He is also survived by six grandchildren; Daniel Ott, Dirk Ott, Patrick Smith of Baton Rouge and Forest Dean of Monroe, LA and 15 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 17th at 10 am in the Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Leesville with Brother Truman Keel officiating, The burial will follow in the Beech Grove Cemetery in Anacoco. Friends may visit from 5pm-8pm Tuesday in the funeral home.

"AL" passed away Saturday, September 13,2014, in Tyler County Hospital in Woodville, TX. Visitation will be from 5P.M. until 9P.M. Tuesday, September 16,2014, and Wednesday, September 17, 2014, in Labby Memorial Funeral Home in DeRidder. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery in Dry Creek, LA.

He is survived by two sons, Wade Harper and Wife Donna of Lake Charles, LA, and Glenn Harper of Sugartown,TX; daughter, Leisha Best and husband Jerry of Jefferson, TX; step-son Gary Brown of TN; sister Marie England and husband "Buddy" of DeRidder, LA; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Edith Marie Demary

Funeral services for Edith Marie Demary, 69, of Longville, LA, will be held at 2P.M., Monday, September 15,2014 in Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in DeRidder, LA, with Rev. Marie passed away Friday, September 12,2014, in her residence in Longville. Visitation will be from 11 A.M. until 2 P.M. Monday, September 15,2014, in Labby Memorial Funeral Home in DeRidder. Marie was born August 24,1945, in Bell, LA to Clint Simon and Rachael Adelia Piper Burnett.

Marie is survived by one son, Wayne Slaydon, Jr. and wife Carla of DeQuincy,LA; three daughters, Diana Faulk and husband Elwin of Longville,LA, Edie Siezemore and husband Stan of Covington, VA, and Yvonne Royer of DeQuincy; three sisters, Wanda Cooley of Springer, LA, Laura Hall of Mikiski, AK, and Irene Gross of Longville; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Judy Burnett.

Audrey Tyler

Mrs. Abraham passed away at her residence on Wednesday, Sept. 10 after a lengthy illness. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Friday from 5-8 PM.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Dorothy Welch; son, Benson Cloud Wilkerson and brother, Glenn Wilkerson.

He is survived by his wife Frances Clark, Florien,LA.; daughter, Rhonda Lynn Wilkerson, Crowley, LA.; grandchildren, Tayler Breigh Hanks, Taryn Reigh Breaux, Haven Cloud Wilkerson, Keyanna Winn Wilkerson and Trevor Beard; great grandchild, Taizley Glynn; along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Willis Muriel Horton, 81, of Anacoco, Louisiana, passed away on Sunday, September 7th, 2014 in Anacoco, Louisiana. Visitation will be held at the First Pentecostal Church in Anacoco, Louisiana from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Thursday, September 11th, 2014. Funeral Services will be held at the First Pentecostal Church in Anacoco, Louisiana on Friday, September 12th,2014 at 10:00 am. Bro. C.W. Dowden and Bro. Shannon Buxton will be officiating. Burial will follow in Fisher Cemetery in Fisher, LA under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home, Leesville, LA.

Mr. Horton was born in Peason, Louisiana to Louis and Mary Horton on February 25th, 1933. He served in his country by joining the US Army and served in the Korean War.

Mr. Horton was preceded in death by his parents: Louis and Mary Horton; brothers: Ivy Lee Horton, Alvie Roy Horton, William Louis Horton and Billie Joe Horton; sisters : Lucille Dixon and Elsie Marie Clark.

Those left to cherish his memory are, brothers: Johnny Carl Horton of Leesville, LA and Cecil Wayne Horton of Crosby, TX; sisters : Estelle Burns of Anacoco, LA and Mirriam Ann Eason of Many, LA.

Maggie Harvey

Maggie Laverne Laurence Harvey, beloved mother and grandmother, entered into eternal life on Saturday, September 6, 2014, at the age of 87, surrounded by her children, Born in Toro, Louisiana on June 27, 1927, she was a long time resident of Pitkin, Louisiana and a memeber of Gravel Hill Baptist Church in Cravens, Louisiana. Before Partially losing her eyesight, Mrs. Harvey was an avid reader and enhoyed the challenge of crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles-a love she passed to many members of her family.

Visitation for Mrs. Harvey will be Friday, september 12, 2014, at Gravel Hill Baptist Church in Cravens from 6:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. Visitation will resume Saturday, September 13th from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Jeff James and Rev. Arlen Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Gravel Hill Cemetery under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.

Mrs. Harvey is survived by her three daughters, Rayetta Thompson (Monroe Thompson) of Alexandria, Louisiana; Jean Farabee (Ernest Farabee) of Shreveport, Louisiana; and Landa Johnson (james Johnson) of Pitkin, Louisiana. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Gregg Harvey Thompson, Brian Thompson, Ashley Thompson Jarvis, Michael Johnson and Laura Farabee; nine great-grandchildren, Steven Thompson, Drake Thompson, Emma Thompson, Megan Thompson, Claire Thompson, Jade Porter, Beth Jarvis and Hadlee Johnson; and three great-great grandchildren, Payton Thompson, Adelyn Thompson and Camden Thompson.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, B.R. Harvey; her parents, Rev. John Frank Laurence and Emma Jean Laurence; and her siblings, Davis Laurence, Rilla Prewitt, Nathan Laurence, Ruth Hilton, Richard Laurence, Rev. Homer Laurence, Myrtle Daniel and Rev. Cecil Laurence.

Pallbearers will be Gregg Thompson, Brian Thompson, Michael Johnson, Steven Thompson, Drake Thompson and Keith Laurence. Ricky Laurence and William Nathan Laurence, Jr., will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Dwayne Douglas Washington, Sr., 65, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this world to God's  heavenly one on Tuesday, September 2,2014. He was the beloved father of two children, daughter Goldie Washington Ramsay of Marietta, GA; and son, Dwayne Douglas Washington, Jr. and wife Chantel Washington of West Palm Beach, FL; five grandchildren, Dwayne Douglas Washington III, Jalen-Claude Russel Washington, Malachi Tyrone Washington, London Woodly Ramsay, and Egypt Alexandria Ramsay. He is also survived by his sisters, Olivia Washington Breland and her husband W.L. Breland of DeRidder, LA, and Demetrial T. Washington of DeRidder, LA, Brothers, Ollie Washington, Jr. and his wife,Buddy Washington of Augusta, GA, and Willie A Washington of DeRidder, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ollie Washington, Sr. and Eria Griffith Washington; brothers Tommie E. Washington and Travis Washington; and sister-in-law, Debra Washington. Because Dwayne was a lover of family, he will also be missed by his cousins who were like brothers and sisters to him. Dwayne's great loves were many, but he especially loved communing with nature by way of fishing.  His infectious smile and contagious laughter will sorely be missed by all who knew and loved him.

The family apperciates all thought and prayers. Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 13,2014 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at Norris Temple Church of God in Christ with Funeral services to proceed at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Beauregard Cemetery in DeRidder, LA.

Roy A. "Buck" Dear

Funeral service for Roy A. "Buck" Dear, 93, will be Tuesday, September 2nd, at 10 am at the Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in DeRidder with Rev. Roger Gill officiating. The burial will follow in the Smyrna Cemetery. Friends may visit Monday, Sept 1st, from 1 pm until 9 pm in the funeral home.

Roy A. "Buck" Dear was born on October 5, 1920. He went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 30, 2014. He attended Sugartown School. He served in the U.S Air Force for a number of years and fought in World War II and the Korean Conflict. After serving his country he held numerous jobs, Lineman for Beauregard Electric, helped build Interstate 10, and was a reserve Deputy for the Beauregard Parish Sheriff Office, the forestry service and as a security guard for Boise. Buck enjoyed farming, reminiscing about his military days and being an American.

He was preceded in death by his parents Berry and Beulah Dear, his loving wife, Pearl Dear, brothers, Wayne, Murray and B.L. Dear.

He is survived by his daughter, Linda Johnson and husband Don; 3 grandkids, Kandi Singleton and husband Damon, Donald Johnson and wife Jody and Jason Johnson and wife Kristy; 5 great grandchildren, Dyllon Singleton, Chase Singleton, Donald Johnson Jr., Caleb Johnson and Brady Johnson all of DeRidder; 3 sisters Irene Cole, Earlene Hutchinson and Nannie Sue McDonald and one brother.

She is survived by two sons, Davis Parker of Ragley and Michael Parker of Ragley. The family would like to express their appreciation to Ms. Chris Dickens, the nurses, aids, and administration of Rospine Rehab Center. They would also like to express their appreciation of Brighton Bridge Hospice staff for the care that was given.

Miss Betty worked for many years as bookkeeper at various livestock barns around the area with the last being Red River Livestock. All cattlemen in the surrounding area knew and respected Miss Betty.

James the son of James Cook and Bertha Spurgeon Brewer was born April 18, 1930 in Simpson, Louisiana. He passed away on Friday, September 5, 2014 in the Northwest Louisiana War Veterans Home in Bossier City, Louisiana. James served in the United States Navy for 4 years and then worked as a Merchant Seaman for over 40 years where he visited numerous countries around the world.

He was preceded in death by; Two Brothers: Robert Huey Brewer and Glen Howard Brewer; One sister and brother-in-law: Ruby & Frank Soden

Mr. Brewer is survived by: Brother: Gerald Brewer of Simpson, La; One Sister: Kathryn Keck of Pineville, La; And A host of nieces and nephews and friends.

(Died September 6, 2014)

Funeral services for James “Buck” Roberts of Leesville, Louisiana will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 8, 2014, at First United Pentecostal Church in Leesville, Louisiana, with Rev. Mark Christian officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, September 7, 2014, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Labby Memorial Funeral Home in Leesville.

Mr. Roberts, the son of Johnny R. Roberts and Vera Elizabeth Lambert Roberts, was born March 10, 1930, in Leesville. He passed away Saturday, September 6, 2014, in DeRidder, Louisiana.

Mr. Roberts was a member of the United States Army from 1948 until 1956 and served in the Korean War. He retired after many years with the State Forestry Commission where he was awarded Towerman of the State. He is survived by his wife, Jane Roberts of Leesville; one son, James Roberts and wife Helen of Leesville; his daughter, Renita O’Hara and husband Scotty of Pickering, Louisiana; one brother, A.C. Roberts of Alabama,; one sister, Betty Leonard of North Carolina.

Mr. Roberts Family would like to extend a special thank you to the Staff at Westwood Manor & Beauregard Memorial Hospital for the care and love shown to them.

(Died September 6, 2014)

Born June 12,1926, in Voth, Texas, to David Charles Curtis (Doc) Pressley, and Electa Adeline Haines Pressley. Went to her heavenly home, September 6th, 2014. She enjoyed working in the garden, cooking for her family and friends, taking care of her husband for 67 years, and being active in her home church. After giving her children their start in life, she went back to school and started a career as an Licensed Practical Nurse at St. Patricks Hospital for twenty-six years.

Preceding in death Clyde J. Parker -husband, 2 sisters- Mary Lou Dartez, and Janette Chapman, 1 brother- John Curtis Pressley, and daughter in law, Delores Parker. Survived by 2 sons- Davis Parker of Ragley and Michael Parker(Peggy) of Ragley. Also survived by 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

The family would express their appreciation to Ms. Chris Dickens, the nurses, aids, and administration of Rosepine Rehab Center. They would also like to express their appreciation to Brighton Bridge Hospice staff for the care that was given.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, from 5 pm until 9 pm at Magnolia Baptist Church in Ragley The funeral service, Wednesday at 2 PM, at Magnolia Baptist Church. Internment will be at the Magnolia Cemetery under the direction of Labby Funeral Home of DeRidder. He was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis Hildebrand and Myrtis Hardy. Funeral services for Marion Pearl Elliott, 82, of Zwolle, LA, will be held on Friday, August 29, 2014 beginning at 10:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church of Zwolle. Burial will follow in the Zwolle City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 28 beginning at 5:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church in Zwolle.

She is survived by her son, Charles Lynn Miller and wife Rhonday Key of Wichita Falls, daughter, Lucinda Miller Fryday and husban GW Bill Fryday of Zwolle.

Homegoing services for Bishop Willie Earl Watts of Leesville will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, August 21, 2014, at Johnson Temple Church of God in Christ in Leesville, Louisiana with Pastor Vertis March officiating. Burial will follow in the Leesville Memorial Cemetery, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral home of Leesville.

Visitation will be held Wednesday August 20, 2014, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.

Bishop Watts the son of Willie Watts and Bishop Becky B. Watts was born January 3, 1933, in Chireno, TX. Bishop Watts departed this life on August 17, 2014. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Elearl & Nathaniel Watts and sister, Evelean Dixson.

He is survived by his wife, Florine Gatewood-Watts of Leesville; Daughter, Janilla L. Davis of Killen, TX; Six Sons, John E. Elbert, Michael D. Watts, Willie E. Watts, Jr., all of Phoenix, AZ, Dana R. Gatewood, Americo J. Gatewood all of Houston, TX and Dexter L. Gatewood of Leesville, LA, Five Sisters, Shirley Jones of Nashville, TN, Velma J. Jackson, Alice Faye Russ, Dorothy McCoy all of Lufkin, Texas, and Loest Roberts of Livingston, TX: Two Brothers, Herman Watts of San Francisco, CA and Howard Watts of CA; Nineteen Grandchildren and Twelve Great Grandchildren.

At a young age Bishop Watts committed his life to Christ, and it was not until his demise, that he stopped sharing the good news of Jesus Christ.

 Robbie Merle Dowden Raiford
(August 9, 1936 - August 19, 2014)

Robbie Merle Dowden Raiford passed away Tuesday evening, August 19th, 2014, in Bossier City from complications of dementia and Parkinsons.Robbie Merle Dowden Raiford

Robbie was born on August 9th, 1936 to Samuel and Oma Taylor Dowden. She grew up in the Peason community and graduated from Plainview High School as co-valedictorian. After graduation, she began working at Fraser Hospital in Many and as Dr. Fraser’s office nurse until retirement.

Robbie married Melvin Raiford on June 6, 1952, and they were married for 60 years until his death in May of 2013. They raised their two daughters in the Fort Jesup community.

Survivors include her two daughters Patti Lann of Bossier City and Nancy Mitchell of Bossier City (husband Will Mitchell) and grandchildren JG, Jonathan, Joshua and Jarred of Franklin, Tennessee; Audra, Jordan, Arianna, Justus, Joel and Jaden of Bossier City. Great grandchildren are Jameson, son of JG, and Caitlyn, Lucy and Liam, children of Josh and Hallie Mitchell. She is also survived by her two sisters-in-law, Neva Dowden of Many and Josie Dowden of Baton Rouge.

One of the favorite memories of her grandchildren was her waking them with the song, “Oh what a beautiful morning” sung by her loudly and purposefully off key.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents; her sisters Vivian Tarver Herrington, Annis Tarver, Maggie Lee Dowden McGee, Imogene Dowden, Clydell Dowden Kile; brothers Tom, Dawson Irby, Ellis, Huey and Wingate Dowden. She was the baby of the family, the youngest of eleven.

Honoring Robbie as pallbearers are her grandsons, JG, Jonathan, Joshua, Jarred and Jordan Mitchell and her nephew, Charles Dowden. Officiating is her nephew, Rev. Keith Dowden, and Rev. Randy Riley of Trinity Heights Baptist Church of Shreveport.

Her daughters wish to thank her Sunday School class at Trinity Heights for their love and support. These ladies were like sisters to her. Also, they wish to extend their gratitude to the staff at Gamble Hospice and Pilgrim Manor for their compassion during her final days.

Visitation will be Thursday at 5:00 p.m. and services will be Friday, August 22nd at 11:00 a.m., both at Warren Meadows Funeral Home in Many, LA. Burial will follow at Fort Jesup Cemetery.

Jerome Joseph Hayden was born on Monday, October 28, 1935 in Highland Park, Michigan. He passed away on Monday, August 18, 2014 at Sabine Medical Center in Many, LA. Jerome was stationed on the U.S.S. Ranger air craft carrier while in the Navy. He also worked 37 years in the Pipeline Industry. He was preceded in death by his parents: Joseph Hayden and Eleanor Ariana Hayden.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Hayden of Many, LA; son, Anthony Hayden and wife Stacia of Sulphur, LA; brother, Robert Hayden of Lake Orion, MI; and grandchildren: Karleigh and Grant Hayden.
