 Armedia Taylor
(July 1, 1921 - April 14, 2014)

Funeral services for Armedia Taylor, 92, of Anacoco, Louisiana will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at the Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Leesville. Burial will follow in the Mitchell Cemetery, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 15th from 6 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., and on Wednesday, April 16th from 8:00 a.m. until service time in the chapel.

Mrs. Taylor was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother was born on July 1, 1921, to James and Odessa Miers Marze. She was married to Marion Taylor on January 20, 1940. Together in that union they had five children.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 8 siblings; husband, Marion Taylor; daughter, Vadie Taylor Marshall; two granddaughters, Vada Armedia Miller and Sonja Taylor Goins, and one great granddaughter, Autumn Rae Goins.

Those left to cherish her memory, her children, Roger Taylor (Betty) of Anacoco, Sidney Taylor (Connie) of Houma, Steven Taylor of Orange Park, FL and Laura Taylor Watson (Lenny) of Anacoco; siblings, Alvin Marze of Houston, TX, Alma Marze Erwin of Oakdale, Isabelle Marze Eaves of Merryville & Ceilestia Marze Terrell of Merryville; son-in-law, Ben Marshall of Velma, OK; grandchildren, Billy Jones, Evie Jane Miller, Carl Mikel Climber (Christina), Charla Marshall Stubbs, Benjamin Marshall (Ardis), Timothy Taylor (Lavonda), Randall Taylor (Allyson), Chad Taylor (Amy), David Taylor, Heather Taylor Lacy, Amanda Taylor White (Warren), Allison Taylor, Russell West (Averi), Mark West, Traci Watson Bailey (Wes), Skylar Watson, Alvin Douglas Boudreaux & Ernest Marshall; 36 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren; a special niece, Tammy Mitchell Bailes and several other nieces and nephews.

Our Mom was an Angel with a sweet smile. We will never forget and unselfish love that will live on in all the hearts she touched.

She loved to treat her grandchildren to homemade waffles in the morning and a snack of her homemade fried fig pies. Go rest High on that mountain, your work here is done. We love you, Your Family.

Mourning is the experience of loss in love. Love is the fuel that inspires grief and the need to mourn.

Funeral Services for Shelli Paige Bozeman, 32, of Florien, LA, will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2014 beginning at 2:00 PM at Alford Heights Baptist Church in Many, LA with Bro. Marvin Leleux officiating. Burial will follow in the Spring Ridge Cemetery in Pleasant Hill, LA. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2014, beginning at 5:00 PM at Alford Heights Baptist Church in Many, LA.

Shelli Paige Bozeman was born on Wednesday, August 19, 1981 in Natchitoches, LA. She passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2014 in Florien, LA.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Randall Bozeman and paternal grandparents, Frankie and Carolyn Bozeman.

She is survived by her children, Heaven Taylor Bozeman of Florien, LA and Robert Allen Killian of Florien, LA; her mother, Bonnie Jean Bozeman of Florien, LA; her sister, Brandi Nichole Maines of Many, LA; along with several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Pallbearers will be Gregg Young, Jake Young, Randy Cauthen, Rickey Cauthen and Brandi Maines.

Sammie Sandel Morales was born on Friday, October 09, 1931 in Sandel, LA. She passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at her residence in Florien, LA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. M.A. Sandel; her sister, Mary E. Anderson and her son, Richard Morales.

She is survived by her three children, Carlos F. Morales of Many, LA; Becky Morales Lafitte of Many, LA and George D. Morales of Fort Myers, FL; three sisters, Katherine Self of Natchitoches, LA; Dr. Addison Sandel of Natchitoches, LA and Jessie V. Grimes of Pasadena, TX; twelve grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

 Frances Helen Adcock

Funeral Services for Frances Helen Adcock, 83, of Zwolle, LA, will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 beginning at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Zwolle, LA with Father Tim Hurd officiating. Burial will follow in the Centuries Memorial Park in Shreveport, LA. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 beginning at 5:00 PM at Warren Meadows Funeral Home in Zwolle, LA.

Frances Helen Adcock was born on Wednesday, September 10, 1930 in Zwolle, LA. She passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at her residence in Zwolle, LA.

Frances loved her family, was generous and kind to everyone she met. She was very protective and made sure her family was safe. She was decribed by many as the life of the party, loved to dance, play dominos, cards and have family and friends over to visit and eat. She loved her animals and would dance and talk to them like they were her children. She also loved to fish and be outdoors.

Frances was the youngest of eight children and everyone knew she was the baby. During her school years, she was part of the championship Zwolle basketball team and played first base on the softball team.

She married the most handsome man in Zwolle (Henry Earl Sepulvado) and had three beautiful children.

Frances was a workaholic. She knew how to work hard and taught her children and grandchildren to do the same. If you were around her she was going to find something for you to do. She was a smart business woman and could always find a way to make money. She was a manager at El Chico's in Shreveport and worked at Western Electric Phone Company in Shreveport and Libby Glass. She enjoyed mostly working for herself. She had a grocery store in Keithville, a resale shop in Shreveport and several rent houses.

She was born and raised in Zwolle, moved away for 30 years, but returned home to Zwolle in 1977 to live her dream in the house her father built. Frances wish was to spend her last night on earth in her father's house and she did just that.

Frances was strong, but was slowly beaten down and heart broken over the loss of all her family except her baby son Jeff and her grandchildren. She will be missed by many. She worked hard and did so much for everyone. It's time for her to rest and be reunited with the family that has passed before her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Martha Leone Martinez; children, Joyce Ann Sepulvado Ebarb, and Thomas Earl Sepulvado; husband, Malcolm Adcock; brothers, Rufus Martinez, Luther (Shane) Martinez; Lonne Martinez and Marvin (Billy) Martinez; and sisters, Blanch Taylor and Clair Wilkins.

She is survived by her son, Jeffery Lynn Sepulvado of Shreveport, LA; grandchildren, Ricky Ebarb of Shreveport, LA; Thomas Sepulvado, Jr. and wife Michelle of South China, ME; Christy Sepulvado of Shreveport, LA; Donna Sepulvado Lemoine of Alexandria, LA; Helen Sepulvado McKinney and husband Clayton of Gloster, LA; April Sepulvado Lanier and husband Jack of Tyler, TX and Kimberly Roxanne Sepulvado Ramsey and husband Ryan; thirteen great grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Pallbearers will be Frank Leone, Clayton McKinney, Charles Lemoine and Andrew Pilcher.

Funeral services for Essie Dowden, 99, of Kisatchie, LA will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at the Kisatchie Baptist Church with Rev. Ronnie Tally officiating. Burial will follow in the Kisatchie Cemetery, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.

Visitation will be held Monday, April 14th from 1 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., and on Tuesday, April 15th from 9:00 a.m. until service time in the church.

Essie, the daughter of Pete and Effie Desedair, was born February 8, 1915 in Flora, LA. She passed away Friday, April 11th at her residence in Kisatchie.

Ms. Essie truly loved spending time with her family and friends. She was longtime member of the Kisatchie Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dave Dowden, her daughter, Opal Tally and a Great Grandson, David H. Tally.

She is survived by sons; Charles and Billy Wayne Dowden both of Orange, TX; Sister, Dessie Sepavado of Zwolle, LA; Grandchildren, Ronnie Tally, Jerry Tally, James Bruce Tally, Rebecca Tally, Billy Dowden, Mark Dowden and Timothy Dowden; 12 Great Grandchildren and numerous Great Great Grandchildren.

 Auta Bruce "Shorty" Highsmith, SR.
(November 6, 1925 - April 12, 2014)

Funeral service for Auta Bruce “Shorty” Highsmith, Sr., 87, of Princeton, Texas, will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in DeRidder, LA, Rev. Gary Evers officiating. Burial will follow in Whitaker Cemetery, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of DeRidder, LA.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2014, 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM, and Wednesday, April 16, 2014, from 9 A M until time of the service at the funeral home in DeRidder.

“Shorty” was born on November 6, 1925, to Oscar Harold and Zettie Loggins Highsmith in Steep Creek, TX. He was a pipeline welder and was a member of Plumbers and Steamfitters Union, Local 106, Lake Charles, LA, for over fifty years. He was a veteran of WWII in the European Theater and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.

Mr. Highsmith is survived by his wife of 63 years Eunice Young Highsmith of Princeton, TX; two sons, Rod Highsmith and wife JoAnn of San Francisco, CA, and A. B. Highsmith, Jr. of Emeryville, CA; daughter, Brenda Highsmith Allbritton and husband Myron of McKinney, TX; sister, Nadine Berwick of Orange, TX; six grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren.

 Winfred H. Vines
(November 4, 1954 - April 11, 2014)

Graveside services for Winfred H. Vines, 59, of the Pisgah Community, will be held Sunday, April 13th at 2:00 PM at the Pisgah Cemetery.

Winfred passed away Friday, April 11th, in Alexandria. Services are under the direction of the Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Leesville.

(August 11, 1933 - April 11, 2014)

Funeral services for Mattie Mae Martin, 80, of Anacoco, Louisiana will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 13, 2014, at the Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Leesville with Rev. Mattie, the daughter of Robert Lee and Mary Mae Marcus Owers was born August 11, 1933, in Anacoco, LA. She passed away Friday, April 11, 2014, in Alexandria.

Mrs. Martin was a member of Cold Springs Baptist Church in Anacoco. She worked for Bell South as a Telephone Operator for twelve years.

She is survived by her husband G.A. “Pete” Martin of Anacoco; son, Gary Martin (wife, Barbara Lea McCullough) of Anacoco and brothers, Robert “Bob” Almon Owers (wife, Anita) of Hemphill, TX and Glen Rae Owers (wife, Sarah) of Many.

 Randle Fred Gandy
(October 27, 1938 - April 8, 2014)

Funeral service for Mr. Randle Fred Gandy will be 11 am Friday, April 11, 2014 at Provencal Baptist Church with Bro. Roger Matkin and Bro. Bruce Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery in Vowels Mill, LA. The family will receive friends from 9 am until service time at the church on Friday the 11th.

Fred Gandy, 75 years of age, passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at his home, after a long illness. Fred was born October 27, 1938, to the late Benjamin Franklin Gandy, Jr. and Pearl Moss Gandy of Bellwood, Louisiana. Fred was a Provencal resident for many years.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Wilmer Gandy, his sisters Effie Eubanks, Winifred Carriger, Isabelle Greene, and Vertie Edwards.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 49 years, Wanda Gandy of Provencal, Louisiana; one daughter, Cindy Parker and her husband Johnny Parker of Woodville, Texas; one son Keith Gandy and his wife Heather Gandy of Provencal, Louisiana; three grandsons, Tyler Lawson and Sherry Fade of Provencal, Louisiana ; Dillon Gandy of Natchitoches, Louisiana and Daniel Gandy of Provencal, Louisiana; two granddaughters Eden Little of Galveston, Texas and Kaitlyn Gandy ofNatchitoches, Louisiana.
Fred was a Baptist by faith, and had a strong belief in God. He was a long-time member of Provencal Baptist Church. Fred was a hard worker, a loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, planting gardens, hunting and fishing. He enjoyed spending time with his two dogs, Pennyand Red. One of the greatest enjoyments of his life was music, playing guitars and singing. He was loved by his family and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Johnny Parker, Tyler Lawson, Bryant Gandy, Ray Gandy, Dillon Gandy and Daniel Gandy. Honorary pallbearers are Ralph Davis and Phillip Gandy.

The family wishes to “thank” the staff at Natchitoches Hospice Care and the staff at the VA OutpatientClinic. Their care and compassion was a blessing in such a difficult time.
 
 Lenard E. Monk
(March 27, 1939 - April 9, 2014)

Funeral services for Lenard E. Monk, 75, of Hicks, Louisiana will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 12, 2014, at Laurel Hill Baptist Church in Hicks, with Rev. Shawn Wagner and Rev. Hollis Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in the Laurel Hill Cemetery, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.

Visitation will be held Friday, April 11th from 5 p.m. until time of service at the church Saturday.

Lenard the son of Elijah and Verna Wellman Monk was born March 27, 1939. He passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at his residence in Hicks.

Mr. Monk was longtime member of Laurel Hill Baptist Church. He retired from Fort Polk as a Supervisor of Road & Grounds after thirty seven years. He was a Mason.

He is survived by his wife Gladys Monk of Hicks; sons, Paul Monk and Ricky Monk (wife, Debra) all of Hicks; daughter, Pam Anderson (husband, Corky) of Lake Charles; brother, Rev. Millard Monk of Hicks; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

 James "J.B." Anderson
(March 22, 1928 - April 9, 2014)

 Funeral Services for James "J.B." Anderson, 86, of Florien, LA, will be held on Friday, April 11, 2014 beginning at 11:00 AM at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Florien, LA with Rev. Carl Scroggs Bro. John Lewing officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Florien, LA. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 10, 2014, beginning at 6:00 PM at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Florien, LA.

James "J.B." Anderson was born on Thursday, March 22, 1928 in Florien, LA. He passed away on Wednesday, April 09, 2014 at his residence in Florien, LA.

J.B. was born and raised in Florien where he attended Mt. Carmel School. He joined the Army in 1946 and served in Korea. Upon returning home he attended Northwestern State University and recieved a Bachelor of Science degree in education. He taught at schools in both Sabine and Caddo Parishes. He then received his Master's Degree in Mathematics from Centenary College. In 1952, he went to work for Texas Eastern Transmission Corporation in Shreveport and the company later relocated him to Houston.

In 1985, he retired and returned home to Mt. Carmel where he cared for his parents until their deaths. J.B. was very active in Mt. Carmel Community affairs. He served as Captain of the Volunteer Fire Department and was a board member and past president of the Sabine Council on Aging. He was serving as president of the Mt. Carmel Cemetery Association and was a Sunday school teacher at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church for many years. He was a friend and mentor to many and will be greatly missed. His loving spirit will remain with us for the rest of our lives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie "Pete" and Sara "Exie" Skinner Anderson and his step-son, David Allen.

He is survived by his wife, Ann Anderson of Florien, LA; four children, Lyn Anderson and wife Sheryl of Alexandria, LA; Ronald Anderson of Shreveport, LA; Karen Moushon and husband Don of Shreveport, LA and Lisa Barefield and husband David of Shreveport, LA; nine grandchildren, Ila Caitlin and husband Shadd Leger; Kelsey Cecile Anderson; Stephen Barefield and wife Anna; Mary Katheryn Barefield; Shelly and husband Dallas Wiard; Brooke Anderson; Ronnie Anderson; Alan Moushon and wife Amy and Amanda Favrot and husband Zach; two great grandchildren, Landon Moushon and Lauren Moushon; along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

 Jerry Wendell Plummer
(July 20, 1948 - April 7, 2014)

Memorial services for Jerry Wendell Plummer, 65, of New Llano, Louisiana will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2014, at the Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Leesville. Burial will follow in the Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.

Visitation will be held Friday, April 11th from 10 a.m. until service time in the chapel.

Jerry, the son of Jesse W. and Dorthy Lynell Yancey Plummer was born July 20, 1948, in Dallas, Texas He passed away Monday, April 7, 2014, in Alexandria.

Mr. Plummer served in the United States Army and was a Vietnam Veteran.  He retired after 22 years of service as an E-8 Master Sergeant.  He then retired with Civil Service at Fort Polk in Communications. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 387, lifetime member of VFW post 3106 and a lifetime member of the N.R.A. He was a motorcycle and gun enthusiast.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Joyce Plummer of New Llano, LA; son Jason Plummer & wife, Babyjean of New Llano, La; sisters, Mary Dale Gage & husband, Doyle of Colbert, OK and Gale McBride & husband, Albert of Elmo, TX and grandchildren, James Plummer and Joyce Plummer.

 Wanda Jones Langley
(April 17, 1957 - April 6, 2014)

Funeral services for Wanda Jones Langley, 56, of Leesville, Louisiana will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2014, at the Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Leesville with speaker Ronald Jarden officiating. Burial will follow in the Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.

Visitation will be held Friday, April 11th from 12 p.m. until service time in the chapel.

Wanda was born April 17, 1957, in Durham, NC, the daughter of James Elwood and Jean Ann Cates Jones. She passed away Sunday, April 6th, in Leesville.

Wanda was an avid Alabama fan.  She loved arts & craft and gardening and was very creative with her time.  She was a loving mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her husband of 9 years, Robert Langley of Leesville, LA; children, Karah Melson of Leesville, LA, Valerie Langley of Shreveport, LA and Zachary Langley of Shreveport, LA; parents, James & Jean Jones of Leesville, LA; sister, Lori Ingram & husband, Mark of Leesville, LA and grandchild, Kenzie Melson.

Hewyt Walcott Norsworthy was born on Monday, July 13, 1925 in Sabine Parish, LA. He passed away on Sunday, April 06, 2014 at Corner Stone Hospital in Monroe,LA.

He was preceded in death by his parents,Henry and Annie Norsworthy and three sisters, Kathleen N. Rose, Lurleen N. Landess and Joyce N. Wailes.

He is survived by his daughter, Neva Guinn of Alexandria, LA; two brothers, Ralph Norsworthy of Torrance, Canada and Ray Norsworthy of Walla Walla, WA; along with a host of friends.

Burial will follow in Whitaker Cemetery, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of DeRidder, LA.  Rubye passed from this life on Sunday, April 6, 2014, at Merryville, LA.

Rubye was born on Saturday, January 21, 1928, to James and Mae Grissom Howell at Denton, Texas.  She moved to DeRidder in 1971.  Rubye loved flowers and roses were her favorite.  She loved her dogs and her special one was “Prissy”, crossword puzzles and giving of herself to various causes.

She is survived by 3 sons, Thomas “Tommy” Henson, Ronald “Ronnie” Henson and Carl James “Tex” Henson and wife Betty, all of DeRidder, LA; 1 daughter, Sharon Medley of Kennedale, TX; special friend & former daughter-in-law, Sharolette Jett Henson of Hornbeck, LA and 3 grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Rebecca Sue Henson; sister, Elaine Tillman and step-grandson, Steven Jett.

 Ann Newman
(October 22, 1933 - April 7, 2014)

Funeral service for Ann Marie Newman, 80, of DeRidder, LA will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at Labby Memorial Funeral Home of DeRidder with Rev. Stuart Graves officiating. Burial will follow in Hampton Memorial Cemetery in Elizabeth, LA under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of DeRidder, LA.  Mrs. Newman passed from this life on Monday, April 7, 2014, in DeRidder, LA.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2014, 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at the funeral home in DeRidder and 9:00 AM on Wednesday until the time of the service.

Ann was born on October 22, 1933, to George and Margaret McDonald Smith at Worcester, MA.  She lived most of her life in Elizabeth, LA where she raised her family.  Primarily a homemaker, she also worked as a waitress, a girls’ softball coach, city councilwomen, a “Pink-Lady” at Beauregard Memorial Hospital and a member of the VFW Post 3619 in DeRidder.  But most of all she was a loving wife and a proud mother and “Nanny” to many.

She is survived by 3 daughters, Cheryl Rabalais (Greg) of Crossett, AR, Cindy Williams (Ned) of Elizabeth, LA and Lisa DeHoven (Alex) of DeRidder, LA; 2 sisters, Esther Krasnecky and Christine Tytula, both of North Brookfield, MA; daughter-in-law, Barbara Newman of Longville; special friend and adopted daughter, Pam Jordan of DeRidder and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bobby Newman, Sr.; 4 sons, Bobby Newman, Jr., Michael Newman, Jimmy Newman and infant son, David Newman.

Funeral service for Dorothy “Dot” Lee Craig, 82, of DeRidder, LA will be held at   1:00 PM Thursday, April 10, 2014, at Labby Memorial Funeral Home of DeRidder, LA with Rev. Jimmie Glass and Rev. Roy Lee Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Beauregard Cemetery, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of DeRidder, LA.  Dorothy passed from this life on Sunday April 6, 2014, at her residence.

Dorothy was born on March 18, 1932, to Floyd and Rosa Lee Johnson in Kinder, LA.  She lived most of her life in DeRidder and was the owner and operator of Craig’s Tropical Fish Shop.  She also worked for Morgan and Lindsey’s and Ideal Drug Store.  Dorothy was a member of Grace Church in DeRidder.  She loved to fish, cook and garden and raised 3 fine boys.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Johnnie Floyd Craig of DeRidder, LA; 3 sons, Jerry Craig of Huntsville, AL, Bill Craig and wife Kay of Pensacola, Florida and Johnnie Craig, Jr. of Gillis, LA; 2 brothers, Jerry Johnson and wife Judy of Sulphur, LA and Richard “Billy” Johnson and wife Georgena of Iowa, LA; 1 sister, Jo Ann Johnson of Houston, TX; 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Alison was a teacher in Vernon Parish for twenty six years and a coach for seven years. During her coaching, she earned coach of the year title twice and led her softball team to the State Finals seven years and won the State Championship three years.

He proudly served in the United States Navy as an aircraft mechanic. Ralph was a member and deacon of Memorial Baptist Church in Longville and he was the worship leader of music. Ralph was an exceptional musician, singer and he loved wood crafting. He was a Boy Scout leader in the Longville area for many years and retired from Mobil Oil Company where he was an operator for 32 years.

Ralph is survived by his wife of 64 years, Faye Ellis Calhoun of Longville, LA; son, Dudley Calhoun and wife Dee of Emory, TX; 2 daughters, Sharon Smith and husband Bill of Longville, LA and Sandra “Sam” Armer and husband Ronald of Carlyss, LA; 7 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and 1 great, great, grandson.

Carl William Allen was born on Tuesday, July 07, 1931 in Del Rio, TX. He passed away on Friday, March 14, 2014 at Sabine Medical Center in Many,LA.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Iva Williams Allen; father, Richard Allen; sister, Helen Carroll and brother, Ralph Allen.

He is survived by his wife, Irene Allen of Many, LA; daughter and son-in-law, Jacqueline Allen Stangl and Dennis Stangl of Dover, DE; son, David Allen of Arlington, TN; daughter, Candace Eddington of Many, LA; sister, Margie Maxwell of West Milford, WV; granddaughters, Amanda Stangl of Exton, PA; Brooke Davis of Many, LA; Savannah Allen of Arlington, TN; Alayna Eddington of Many, LA; grandson and wife, Daniel and Heidi Stangl of Media, PA; great grandsons, Chase and Luke Stangl; great granddaughters, Layla Waltz and Phoebe Stangl; along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

 William Gerald Slaydon
(February 17, 1927 - March 17, 2014)

Funeral service for William Gerald Slaydon, 87, of Longville, LA, will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, March 22, 2014, at First Baptist Church of Longville with Rev. Stuart Graves officiating. Burial will follow in Magnolia Cemetery, Ragley, LA, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of DeRidder, LA.

 Visitation will be held on Friday, March 21, 2014, from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Longville, and will continue on Saturday, March 22, 2014, from 9 A.M. until time of the service at the church.

 Mr. Slaydon was born on February 17, 1927, to William Jessie Slaydon and Dolly Vogie Bailey Slaydon in DeRidder, LA. He lived in Westlake, LA, for most of his life before retiring and moving to Longville. He was an Operator at City Service Oil Refinery from which he retired. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Longville. Mr. Slaydon was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving during WWII in the Asian Theater. He passed from this life on Monday, March 17, 2014, in Sulphur, LA.

 He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Iris Ann Slaydon of Longville; one son, William Michael Slaydon and wife Mary of Westlake, LA; one daughter, Janet Slaydon Owens and Husband Dr. Michael of Baton Rouge, LA; one brother, Ross Slaydon of Longville; one sister Peggy Brown of Longville; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

 Mary Louise Swain
(December 15, 1951 - March 16, 2014)

Funeral service for Mary Swain, 62, of Rosepine, LA will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in DeRidder, LA, with Rev. Arlen Smith officiating. Private burial will be at a later date in Drakes Fork Cemetery. Cremation was entrusted to Labby Memorial Funeral Home in DeRidder.

 Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 18, 2014, from 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM, and Wednesday, March 19, 2014, from 9 AM until time of the funeral at the funeral home in DeRidder.

Mary was born on December 15, 1951, to Oscar Earl and Mollie Betty Mullins Swain in San Bernardino, CA. She also lived in Lake Charles, LA prior to settling in DeRidder. Although a homemaker for most of her life, Mary had worked in the offshore oil industry as a cook. She loved to play bingo, keno, yatzee and other games with her family. Mary was a “communicator” who loved her family and loved spoiling her grandchildren. She passed from this life on Sunday, March 16, 2014, in Beauregard Memorial Hospital in DeRidder.

Mary is survived by her husband of 42 years Johnny Swain of Rosepine, LA: one son, Oscar Swain and wife Felecia of Rosepine: brother, Alvin Earl Deason of Las Vegas, NV: sister, Maxine Hollaert of Apple Valley, CA: one granddaughter: and an extended family of eight “grandchildren” two nieces, Angie and Patty, and many other nieces and nephews.

 Sylvia Gibson
(February 22, 1927 - March 16, 2014)

Funeral services for Sylvia “Aunt Mutt” Gibson, 87, of Leesville, Louisiana will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at Pleasant View Baptist Church in Hornbeck with Rev. John Lewing, II and Rev. Jack Bell officiating. Burial will follow in the Toro Cemetery, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 18th from 5 p.m. until time of service in the church. Sylvia, the daughter of Lloyd and Lula Savell Ford was born February 22, 1927, in Florien, LA. She passed away Sunday, March 16, 2014, in Alexandria.

She was preceded in death by her husband Glen Gibson and children, Faye Johnson, Diane Gibson and Harvey Gibson.

She is survived by her children, LaVerne Gibson and Milton Charles of Leesville, Yvonne Parker of Hornbeck, Barbara Treese & husband, Steve of Katy, TX, Waine Ross & wife Eva of Anacoco, Glen Gibson & wife Mary of Oregon, Carolyn Wilbur of Sherman, TX and Francis Knippers of Hornbeck; thirty grandchildren and sixty plus great grandchildren.

 Myrtle Rock
(August 21, 1933 - March 10, 2014)

Funeral services for Myrtle Rock, 80, of New Orleans, Louisiana will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, March 22, 2014, at the Greater Bethel AME Church in Leesville with Rev. Louis Smith, Rev. Maurice Johnson and Rev. Joe Green officiating. Burial will follow in the Leesville Memorial Cemetery, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.

Visitation will be held Saturday, March 22, 2014, from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at the church.

On Monday, March 10, 2014, at 12:30 a.m., angels were sent to welcome Myrtle Rock (“Murl” or “Aunt Murl,” as she was affectionately called) into “Heavenly Rest.”

Murl was born August 21, 1933, in Leesville, Louisiana, and joined Bethel A.M.E. Church at an early age. She served as a church stewardess. She met and married Frank Rock, Sr., in September 1954.

She is predeceased by her husband Frank; son, Gary Rock; mother Mattie Wells; sister Delories Wells, and niece Cheryl Wells.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories, her daughters Charmaine Rock of New Orleans and Rochelle (Cookie) Rock of Ellicott City, Maryland; sons Frank Rock, Jr. of Indianapolis, Indiana; Gordon (Jennifer) Rock of Ellicott City, Maryland; Craig (Crystal) Rock of Hammond, Louisiana; Gregory Rock of Houston, Texas; and Marlon Rock of Baltimore, Maryland; ten grandchildren, Myrtle, Nathan, Chris, Xavier, Jalisa, Stephan, Craig, Crystinne, Chala, and J-hmya; ; three great-grandchildren Laia, Avery, and Dylan; two half-sisters and one half-brother Ethel Wells, Lucinda Carr, and Edward Wells of Kansas City, MO; brother-in-law Sylvester Rock, sister-in-law Helen Rock both of Leesville; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Gale Williams, 63, of LaCamp, Louisiana entered eternal peace on March 14th, 2014 in DeRidder, Louisiana. Visitation will be held at Laurel Hill Baptist Church in LaCamp, Louisiana on Monday, March 17th, 2014 from 5:00 pm until the time of service on Tuesday, March 18th, 2014 at 10:00 am.

Mrs. Gale was preceded in death by her parents, Haywood and Delma White Deason; daughter, Patsy Lynn Williams; sisters, Agnes Maddox and Eloise Ashworth and brother, Dalmon Deason. Melanie Schweiger was born on Thursday, November 15, 1956 in JacksonvillE, FL. She passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at her home in Many, LA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Betty Lou Aque and her first husband Dale LaFleur.

She is survived by her husband, Allan Schweiger of Many, LA; son, Alan LaFleur of Salem, OR.; son, Glen Schweiger of W. Bend, WI.; daughter, Kimberleigh Nagel of Natchitoches, LA.; daughter, Mechel Green of Muscle Shoals, AL.; mother, Diana Pohlman of Ocala, FL.; sister, Pam Memmer of Sugarland, TX.; brothers,Steven Aque of Atlanta, GA. and Rob Pohlman of Ocala, FL.; seven grandchildren; one great grandchild; along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

 Paul O. Dutcher
(December 11, 1916 - March 13, 2014)

Paul O. Dutcher, 97, of DeRidder, LA passed away peacefully on March 13, 2004. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, March 16, 2014, in the Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel located in DeRidder, LA with Rev. Wayne Evans officiating. Burial will follow in Beauregard Cemetery in DeRidder under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home in DeRidder. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2014, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM and will continue on Sunday, March 16, 2014, from 10 a.m. until time of the service at the funeral home in DeRidder.

During Paul’s professional career, he proudly served as a Boy Scouts of America professional for over 25 years, recruiting adult volunteers, promoting youth membership and organizing challenging and character building events. Paul directly impacted the personal development of many boys into responsible young men. He was still interacting with local Scouts in DeRidder as late as 2013. After retiring from Scouting, he continued to serve the youth in his community for several years as a school crossing guard at K. R. Hanchey Elementary.

Paul was born and grew up in Toledo, Ohio. He married Betty Dilley in 1942 and remained married for 71 years until her passing earlier this year. They lived in DeRidder since 1972, with previous residences in Alexandria, LA; Mississippi; Arkansas and Ohio.

Those that have preceded him in death are his wife, Betty; his parents, Otto Cline and Walla Hedwig Warnke Dutcher; sisters, Helen Meister and Ruth Whitworth, and their husbands Melvin Meister and Eugene Whitworth.

Paul’s surviving family includes daughters, Janet Hoffpauir, Paula Walker and husband Kenneth; son, David Dutcher and wife Judy; grandsons, Kevin Walker and wife Christie, Andrew Walker and wife Claire and great granddaughters, Bella and Hanna.

The family wishes to thank DeRidder Retirement and Rehabilitation Center and Brighton Bridge Hospice for their compassionate care.

Cherie Johnson Stephens
(October 1, 1961 - March 13, 2014)

Cherie Johnson Stephens, 52, of Leesville passed away Thursday, March 13, 2014 at her residence in Leesville.

Cherie, the daughter of Amos Ferrell and Carol Jean Chisam Johnson was born October 1, 1961, in Fairbanks, AK. Her and her family moved to Leesville from Alaska when she was three years old. Cherie graduated from Leesville High School in 1979. She worked has a housekeeper for a number of years. She loved to read (especially Stephen King novels), writing poems and working crossword puzzles. She loved spending time with her family and friends and was crazy about her animals, Thibodeaux, Comeaux, Jericho Bailey, Kissie and Kitty Man  

She is survived by her husband of seven years, David Stephens of Leesville; sons, Timothy Brent Kellam & Melisa Barrell of Leesville, LA, Mark Anthony Kellam & Alicia of Anchorage, AK and James Williams Johnson & Charlene Johnson of Eagle River, AK; brother, Michael Johnson of Gulf Shores, AL and grandchildren, Kaylee Kellam, Kaycee Kellam, Beaux Yager Johnson & Evelyn Johnson.

Cherie was cremated per her wishes and there will be a Life Celebration held by her family at a later date.

Gilmore Kerry

 (November 20, 1932 - March 12, 2014)

Master Sergeant (Retired) Gilmore Kerry, Sr., 81, of Leesville, LA passed away peacefully on March 12, 2014. He was born in Derry, LA. He is the son of Arzene and Louvenia Kerry, and the loyal and loving husband of Annie Mae Troquille Kerry for 60 years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Stephana Ann Ryan (Tim) of Leesville, LA, Frieda Witt (Paul) of Seattle, WA, Vanessa Russell (Steven) of Atlanta, GA, Letitia Kerry of Shreveport, LA, and three sons, Gerald Kerry (Brigit) of Abita Springs, LA, Nathan Kerry (Jill) of Atlanta, GA, and Gilmore Kerry, Jr. (Kathy) of Fairview, TX, and six grandchildren, Jessica Ryan and Christopher Ryan of Leesville, LA, Meghan Kerry of Abita Springs, LA, Ethan Kerry and Jacob Kerry of Fairview, TX, and Dillon Kerry of Atlanta, GA.

He is also survived by three sisters, Betty Nettles (Billy) of Baker, LA, Venia House of Zachary, LA, and Effie Everett of Denham Springs, LA, and one brother, John Kerry (Sharon) of Kansas City, MO. He is preceded in death by siblings Maggie Daniels, Pete Kerry, and Willie Mae Edwards.

Master Sergeant (Retired) Kerry is a decorated Korean and Vietnam veteran. He served honorably in the United States Army from 1951 until his retirement in 1972. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star, Joint Service Commendation, Army Commendation, Purple Heart, and a variety of military service related medals. Gilmore Kerry was also retired from Civil Services at Ft. Polk, LA and was part of the management team at the Rapides Parish Coliseum in Alexandria in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Gilmore will be lovingly remembered by family and friends as a loving father, proud patriot and US Army Veteran, a tireless and relentless life force, and someone never afraid to provide his opinion or "buck the system". He was a "country boy" from Bayou Cypre who travelled the world and never forgot his humble upbringing. He left us a legacy of stories and memories from his extraordinary life.

A wake will be held at Hixson Funeral Home from 6-10 p.m. on Saturday, March 15, 2014. Funeral services will be held at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Leesville, LA on Sunday, March 16, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Emmanuel Cemetery in Chopin, LA.
